Creating Sacred Spaces

our home, a sacred space

simple Steps to find tranquility, harmony, and a piece of calm in the home.

It is April 2020 and most of us are in our homes except for the amazing essential workers. A special shout out full of gratitude to the medical professionals, the mail carriers, the store workers and all of the workers out there who do not have the luxury of being home.

Our homes are a sacred space but sometimes its hard to find the truly sacred space within our homes for some peace and quiet especially at times like these. When Corissa from Three Charmed Gems reached out and invited me to collaborate with her on the Sacred Space challenge, I was more than happy to contribute. Each one of us should feel tranquil in our homes or at least have a space no matter what size where we can retreat to and relax.

Hope these tips help in creating a peaceful home or maybe just bring a little bit of peace to a corner of your home. May everyone find tranquility, harmony, and a piece of calm even if it is for a moment. Feel free to contact me if you have a question or leave a comment below. Looking forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy creating your sacred space.

my 9 Tips to bring success into your life

Declutter

The first step is to declutter the space by moving away anything that’s not necessary and anything that doesn’t serve any purpose and is not needed anymore. Maybe some of the items can go to a different part of the home, can be stored away in a closet or storage or can be donated.

Organize

The items that you decided to leave in the space should be organized and placed neatly in such away that they are easy to take out if necessary. Place similar items together so that it’s easily found if in a drawer or cabinet.

clean

Clean the space. After you declutter and organize don’t forget to wipe down the space and free it of dust and dirt and start fresh with your space. Don’t forget to try to use non-toxic cleaners if possible. You can also do a space clearing if you’re familiar with it or have a professional do it.

happy things

Keep what makes you happy. If any item bring you negative emotions, bad memories or uneasy feelings then it is time to let those items go by either donating it, selling it or tossing it if you feel that’s fitting.

rearrange

Rearrange furniture to create good flow. Sometimes we get so stuck in the way a room is arranged that we see no other way it could be but there are often many possible variations in terms of furniture arrangement. Play around and try different options and pay attention to the best possible arrangement to allow flow in the room. Make sure there’s ample room to move around and to pass by without hitting any corner of a furniture piece.

move a little

Move out what’s not necessary. Sometimes items live in a room for longer than necessary just because we get used to it but they are not always needed. Maybe some pieces would fit better in a different part of your home. Take a look around and make sure each piece fits well into the function of the room. To add space, move out large items that don’t serve a purpose.

air & light

Open windows to get fresh air in and bring light in during the day. With most of us staying indoors now, we still need to get that fresh air in and opening the windows to get that air flowing is the best you can do for your home. Especially with Spring in our part of the world, now is a great time to open windows. Don’t forget to move and open those window shades and curtains to get the light in the room. As for night time, you might want the opposite. This is a good time to crave the dark cave like feeling and close those shades to create a cozy and protective space.

remove electronics

Take out Electronics to enhance the sacred space. Remove any monitors, tv’s, etc if possible to enhance the space with tranquility and unless you’re using your phone for music/meditation I recommend you leave it in another room.

plants & flowers

Add plants to bring nature indoors. Plants are a great way to add positive chi, to freshen the air and to add that pop of green color to the space.

aromatherapy

Scents are a great way to enhance the space and make it your own. Choose a scent that speaks to you and brings you a peace of mind. This is the lovely diffuser that Denise of Doterra donated for Grace’s House along with the essential oils. I selected Wild Orange, Peppermint and Balance for the space but each space calls for a specific selection which should be chosen on a case by case basis.

sound

Adding music is a wonderful way to bring tranquility and to distract the mind and help it relax.

artwork

Evaluate artwork hanging on the walls. Serene artwork is best for your sacred space. Nothing loud, busy or negative is best.

color

Calming colors on walls is best so if you have a chance to repaint it’s a great way to transform the space. Right now since many of us don’t have the extra paint, then just imagine the soothing colors on the wall or look for paint colors that you would love to have in the future when we are all able to go to the paint stores.

crystals

Crystals can certainly enhance a space and help transform it. Whether it’s to bring a sense of calmness or to uplift the mood, there are so many to chose from. I bet there is a perfect one for your sacred space.

textures

Add textures, fabrics that make you feel comfortable, at ease and relaxed. Floor cushions or meditation cushions are great but if you don’t have any, you can place a pillow on the floor and bring in blankets to cover your legs to feel comfortable, safe and warm.
